Why Itamambuca is one of Brazil's best surf beaches
Itamambuca Beach faces the open Atlantic, receiving consistent swells from the south and southeast year-round. The beach is 2 km long with several distinct peaks — from mellow inside sections ideal for beginners to powerful outside breaks that challenge experienced surfers.
The wave quality has made Itamambuca a regular stop on Brazilian surf championships. But most days, the lineup is uncrowded and the vibe is relaxed. The beach sits inside an environmental preservation area, surrounded by Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica), with no high-rises or boardwalks — just sand, forest, and ocean.
Surf lessons at Momento Itamambuca
We offer surf lessons with local instructors who know Itamambuca's breaks intimately. Boards are provided — soft-tops for beginners, performance boards for intermediates. Lessons typically last 1.5 to 2 hours and happen in the morning when conditions are best.
All levels are welcome. First-timers will stand up on their first session. Experienced surfers get guidance on the best peaks for the day's conditions. After your session, recover at the glass sauna overlooking the Atlantic Forest — heat, cold water, silence.
Wave conditions and best season
Itamambuca works year-round, but the best swells arrive between April and October (autumn/winter), when south swells consistently push head-high to overhead waves. Summer (December to March) brings smaller, more playful waves — perfect for learning.
Water temperature ranges from 20°C in winter to 27°C in summer. Most surfers use a spring suit in winter and boardshorts in summer. The beach has a sandy bottom with no rocks, making it safe for all levels.
Stay, surf, recover
Momento Itamambuca is the only boutique hotel directly on Itamambuca Beach. 11 rooms between the Atlantic Forest and the sea. After surfing, you have the glass sauna for thermal contrast recovery, an outdoor pool, and a restaurant serving meals made with local ingredients. Breakfast is included in every stay.
